Steve Simon has spent much of his career in public service. He is currently in his second term as MN Secretary of State, but prior to that, he spent 10 years representing St. Louis Park and Hopkins in the MN House of Representatives. Simon also has several years of experience working as a lawyer in private practice. A little known fact about Simon? He appeared in the Oscar-nominated film “The War Room,” a documentary about President Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign. Simon lives in Hopkins with his wife Leia, two children, and rescue dog, Hugo.

Favorite hangout spot at Hopkins High School? The mall.
What Hopkins teacher made a difference? Phil Abalan, who taught AP American and European History, was dynamic and influential. He had a passion for history and for us as students. He taught like the head coach in the locker room.
How did Hopkins prepare you? Learning how to write at Hopkins was so important to me — how to approach the written word. I also relished the opportunity to participate in speech and debate, which broadened my horizons by forcing me to consider so many things in the world. And, of course, I made lifelong friendships at Hopkins.
